Do you remember when I met Young House Love? (Click here to read all about it.) Well, today they are hosting a link up on their blog where people are actually making the things they pin on Pinterest. And you know what the Youngsters are doing? Wainscoting. Do you know what that is? Me either, I had to Google it. And I'm still not sure about how to pronounce it. Be sure to head on over to their blog to check it out.
So of all the 547243 things I've pinned on Pinterest I've actually made about three things. And one was a recipe and failed miserably. So I decided to make the tulle pom pom garland that I pinned because I think it would be adorable to hang in EEM's nursery. Would also be cute to use as decor at a bridal or baby shower.
Here are my supplies-a few rolls of tulle from Hobby Lobby, scissors and raffia because I was going to string them together to make a garland, but I quickly realized ribbon would be a better option, so just pretend the raffia in the picture below is a spool of ribbon.
Next you will need to find a hardcover book. A good rule of thumb is the bigger the book the bigger the pom pom. (And if you just thought of a dirty joke, well, that is your own problem.) If you are going to make a garland, I recommend sticking with a smaller book. Now, wrap your tulle around the book 10 times (the picture below is wrapped about three times):
Slide the tulle off the book and cut a separate strip of tulle
Take that extra strip and knot it around the middle of your bunch:
Now slide your scissors through the loops on the right side of the bunch:
Give it a good snip and fluff.
Do the same thing on the opposite side.
Once you have enough poms, string them on ribbon to make a garland. Or hang them from the ceiling. Or just stare at them like I did because I didn't have any ribbon handy.
Also, if you are like me and need a live demonstration I found this YouTube tutorial helpful.
